Statement 1 is not correct: BIMSTEC was originally formed as BIST-EC in 1997 by Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, not Myanmar and Nepal.

Statement 2 is not correct: Although Myanmar joined later in December 1997, the name BIMSTEC was officially adopted only in 2004, after the admission of Nepal and Bhutan.
