Statement 1 is correct: There are eight types of urban local governments in India&ndash; Municipal Corporation,Municipality,Notified Area Committee, Town Area Committee, Cantonment Board, Township, Port Trust and Special Purpose Agency.
Notified Area Committee: It is created for the administration of two types of areas&ndash;a fast developing town due to industrialisation, and a town which does not yet fulfil all the conditions necessary for the constitution of a Municipality, but which otherwise is considered important by the State government. Statement 2 is not correct: It is known as Notified Area Committee because it is created through a notification of the State Government published in the official gazette. Unlike the Municipality, it is an entirely nominated body, that is, all the members of a notified area committee including the chairman are nominated by the State Government.
