Overview: The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) is an independent intergovernmental Organisation with its seat in the Villa Aldobrandini in Rome. Its purpose is to study needs and methods for modernising, harmonising and co-ordinating private and in particular commercial law as between States and groups of States and to formulate uniform law instruments, principles and rules to achieve those objectives.
Its core mission involves studying the needs and methods for modernizing, harmonizing, and coordinating private and commercial law among States and groups of States. UNIDROIT actively formulates uniform law instruments, principles, and rules to achieve these objectives. It is also worth mentioning that UNIDROIT has adopted the &ldquo;Principles of International Commercial Contracts&rdquo; which is a non-legislative means of unification or harmonization of law.
