Context: Recently, it was in news as New Zealand (NZ) joined the Indo-Pacific Oceans&rsquo; Initiative (IPOI) during the visit of NZ&rsquo;s PM to India.

Statement 1 is correct: The Indo-Pacific Oceans&rsquo; Initiative (IPOI) was indeed launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 4, 2019, during the East Asia Summit in Bangkok, Thailand.

Statement 2 is not correct: IPOI is not a security treaty. Rather, it is an open and inclusive global initiative focusing on seven pillars:
Maritime Security, Maritime Ecology, Maritime Resources, Capacity Building and Resource Sharing, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Science, Technology and Academic Cooperation, and Trade Connectivity and Maritime Transport.
