During the reign of Rajaraja I (985&ndash;1014 AD), the Chola Empire reached new heights of power. He successfully curbed the rising influence of the Western Chalukyas of Kalyani by defeating Satyasraya and capturing key regions, including the Raichur Doab and Banavasi. As a result, Chola authority extended up to the Tungabhadra River.

The invasion of Sri Lanka was led by his son, Rajendra I. With the Sri Lankan king Mahinda V fleeing the country, the Cholas annexed northern Sri Lanka. Rajaraja I&rsquo;s final military accomplishment was a successful naval expedition that resulted in the conquest of the Maldives.
