Statement I is correct: Code on Wages, 2019 provides for universal minimum wage and floor wages across organized and unorganized sectors to all workers, including gig workers. The provisions of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, have been rationalized and subsumed under the Code on Wages, 2019, making minimum wages universally applicable across employment.

Statement II is not correct: The Code on Social Security, 2020, one of the four Labour Codes enacted by the Parliament provides for the framing of suitable social security measures for gig workers and platform workers on matters relating to life and disability cover, accident insurance, health and maternity benefits, old age protection, etc. The Code also provides for setting up a Social Security Fund to finance the welfare scheme. Code on Wages, 2019, does not provide for protection of gig workers&rsquo; rights.
