Statement 1 is not correct: Genetically Modified (GM) crops are developed through the direct manipulation of DNA, whereas controlled pollination is a method used in conventional breeding and not in genetic modification.

Statement 2 is correct: Bt cotton, developed using the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) gene, was approved for commercial cultivation in India in 2002 and remains the only GM crop currently permitted for such use. Other GM crops, such as Bt brinjal and GM mustard, have undergone trials but have not yet received approval for large-scale commercial cultivation.

Statement 3 is correct: The Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee (GEAC), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, is the statutory body mandated by the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the Rules, 1989, to approve the environmental release of GM crops and grant permission for their experimental field trials.
