Which of the following statements is not correct regarding C-FLOOD ?
1. It is a web-based platform that provides two-days advance inundation forecasts up to village level.
2. It uses advanced 2-D hydrodynamic modelling to simulate flood scenarios.
Select the correct answer using the code given below:
(a) 1 only
(b) 2 only
(c) Both 1 and 2
(d) Neither 1 nor 2
Explanation
Recently, Union Minister of Jal Shakti inaugurated C-FLOOD, a Unified Inundation Forecasting System.
C-FLOOD is a unified flood forecasting system jointly developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune, and the Central Water Commission (CWC) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation. It was executed under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
Statement 1 is correct: C-FLOOD is a web-based platform that gives flood forecasts up to two days in advance at the village level through maps and water level predictions. It brings together flood data from national and regional agencies to help disaster management authorities. Currently, it covers the Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi river basins, with plans to include more in the future.
Statement 2 is correct: The C-FLOOD platform uses advanced 2-D hydrodynamic modelling to simulate flood scenarios. The simulations for Mahanadi Basin are run on High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure under NSM at C-DAC Pune, with integration of outputs for Godavari and Tapi Basins, which have been developed by National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) under the National Hydrology Project (NHP).
