Udupi police have recently registered a case against eight individuals accused of illegally entering the restricted Dariya Bahadur, also known as Bhadragada or Lighthouse Island. This small yet captivating island falls within the Malpe police station jurisdiction and is one of the four islands situated near Malpe Beach.
Nestled in the Udupi district of Karnataka, Dariya Bahadur Island spans approximately 1.6 square kilometers, with an area estimated to be less than 250 yards. Known for its rocky landscape, the island is admired for the aesthetic beauty of its structures.
The Daira Bahadurgarh fort, a significant historical site on the island, was constructed by Basavappa Naik of Bidanur. This fort is enveloped in mystery, as it is believed that the king's treasure was buried here to protect it from the invasion of Haider Ali during the mid-18th century.
Apart from the fort, the island also hosts an old tile factory and several temples, adding to its historical charm. The enigma surrounding the island continues to attract attention, with tales of hidden treasures and ancient mysteries captivating the imagination of many.
