Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T) and BAE Systems have secured a significant contract to supply the Indian Army with the BvS10 Sindhu, a specialized all-terrain armoured vehicle. This development marks an important milestone in enhancing the mobility and versatility of the Indian military forces.
The BvS10 is a renowned articulated all-terrain vehicle utilized by several European militaries, including those of Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. Its robust design, which connects two vehicle sections, enables it to navigate challenging terrains that typically impede conventional wheeled or tracked vehicles.
The BvS10 Sindhu is an upgraded version of the original platform, specifically customized to address the unique terrain and climate challenges of India. This variant is manufactured at L&T's Armoured Systems Complex in Hazira, Gujarat, with technical support from BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original developer of the BvS10.
The BvS10 Sindhu stands out for its adaptability, capable of being reconfigured for various roles such as troop transport, command post, ambulance, recovery, logistics, and even a weapons-armed version. This flexibility is essential to meet the diverse mission needs of the Indian Army.
Specifically designed for India’s diverse environmental conditions, the BvS10 Sindhu can operate in high-altitude regions, deserts, marshlands, and flood-prone areas. Its amphibious capability further enhances its operational scope, enabling it to maneuver through water or flooded terrains with ease.
