The Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) represents a significant stride in India's space exploration endeavors, with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) aiming to make this vision a reality by 2035. This planned space station will be assembled in various phases, with its design incorporating multiple modules essential for prolonged space operations.
The assembly of BAS will be conducted in a phased approach, involving the launch and integration of diverse modules over time. Currently, ISRO is in the process of conceptualizing these modules and the overall structural configuration of the space station.
As of now, the Indian government has not yet allocated specific funds for the BAS project. Funding considerations and allocations are expected to follow the completion of feasibility studies and the formal approval of the project proposal.
The establishment of BAS is driven by objectives such as enhancing India's capabilities in space technology, conducting scientific research in microgravity, testing novel space technologies, and potentially enabling future manned missions to other celestial bodies.
In conjunction with the BAS development, ISRO is also planning further lunar exploration missions. These include orbiters, landers, rovers, and potentially a lunar sample return mission. Discussions are underway regarding the feasibility of human landings on the Moon.
