The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 is a proposed legislation aimed at reforming sports administration in India. It seeks to bring all sports federations, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), under a statutory framework. The Bill promotes transparency, accountability, and merit-based governance through independent tribunals and structured oversight.
The Bill seeks to establish a uniform legal framework for all sports bodies in India. Under this Bill, it will be formally recognized as a National Sports Federation (NSF) and made accountable under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The Bill introduces key institutions to ensure fair governance and speedy resolution:
All National Sports Federations (NSFs), including the BCCI, must establish the following internal committees:
The age cap for office-bearers has been raised to 75 years. A maximum of three terms is allowed, with the third term restricted to those who have already completed two terms in the Executive Committee. Exceptions apply only to individuals of outstanding merit in sports governance.
