The ULPIN is a 14-digit alphanumeric identifier assigned to each land parcel in India. It was introduced under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP) to provide a standardized way of identifying land parcels and enhancing land administration efficiency.
ULPIN is generated using the land parcel’s geographic coordinates (longitude and latitude), ensuring each parcel has a unique identifier.
ULPIN addresses issues such as inconsistent addressing systems, difficulties in verifying land ownership, and fraud risks associated with multiple land records.
ULPIN serves as a single source of reliable information for all land records, linking them with cadastral maps, ownership data, and other relevant information, thus modernizing the land administration system in India.
