The e-Shram portal, inaugurated by the Government of India on 26 August 2021, is a landmark initiative aimed at creating the first-ever national database for unorganised sector workers. This database encompasses a diverse group of workers, including migrant workers, construction workers, as well as gig and platform workers. The primary goal of this initiative is to streamline the process of extending social sector schemes’ benefits to these often-overlooked workers.
As of 20 June, the e-Shram portal has seen an impressive registration of approximately 29.7 crore unorganised workers. This figure highlights the portal's reach and its significance in documenting the workforce.
Notably, the top five states account for a substantial 58% of the total registrations on the portal. Below is a detailed breakdown of the leading states:
