The Cities Coalition for Circularity (C-3) represents a collaborative effort among multiple nations to foster city-to-city partnerships, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and engage with the private sector for the purpose of achieving sustainable urban development.
The primary aim of C-3 is to establish a vital platform where policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers can come together to discuss and implement effective sustainable solutions focusing on waste management and resource efficiency specifically within the Asia-Pacific region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted India's dedication to the principles of a circular economy through the 'Pro-Planet People' (P3) initiative. He has suggested the formation of a working group among member nations to finalize the coalition's structure and operational framework.
According to the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, agreements valued at ₹1,800 crore are set to be signed, benefiting 18 cities across 14 states. These projects are intended to serve as exemplary models for other urban areas.
The C-3 initiative incorporates the 3R approach to guarantee sustainable urban development, focusing on effective waste management and resource efficiency in cities involved in the coalition.
Launched in 2009, the Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum aims to promote sustainable waste management and resource efficiency. C-3 aligns with this vision, reinforcing policy dialogue and enhancing capacity building initiatives.
The Hanoi 3R Declaration has laid down 33 voluntary goals to aid the transition towards a resource-efficient and circular economy. This declaration acts as a cornerstone for the ongoing sustainability efforts exemplified by the C-3 initiative. Sustainable development is fundamentally about crafting enduring value for the generations to come.
