In November 2025, Dr. V.K. Paul from NITI Aayog unveiled a groundbreaking report titled "Water Budgeting in Aspirational Blocks" in New Delhi. This initiative marks a significant stride towards effective water management in India. Concurrently, a partnership between NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and CFA Institute India Private Limited aims to enhance financial literacy and ethical governance in the nation's innovation ecosystem.
The water budgeting project, spearheaded by NITI Aayog in collaboration with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) India, serves to empower informed decision-making for sustainable water management. Through the use of a web application named Varuni, this initiative quantifies the water demand-supply gaps, supporting efficient resource utilization and reducing wastage.
The selection criteria for these blocks were based on the 2023 CGWB Report concerning India's Dynamic Groundwater Resources. The chosen regions were identified as safe or water-stressed, with a focus on areas where GIZ can efficiently deploy resources. This includes regions like Gangavaram (AP), Fatehpur (Bihar), and Kukarmunda (Gujarat), among others.
Alongside water management, NITI Aayog has partnered with CFA Institute India to promote financial education among India's innovators. This collaboration is focused on capacity-building, equipping innovators with global best practices, and enhancing ethical decision-making skills.
By integrating these initiatives, NITI Aayog is paving the way for sustainable development and educational growth in India, ensuring a future-ready generation of responsible innovators.
