The Narcotics Control Bureau and Delhi Police have collaborated in a monumental effort resulting in the seizure of 329 kg of methamphetamine, valued at an astonishing Rs 262 crore. This operation marks one of the most significant drug recoveries in the national capital. Dubbed Operation Crystal Fortress, the crackdown targeted a transnational drug cartel that used Delhi as a strategic distribution hub.
The operation culminated in the recovery of the drug consignment from a residence in Chattarpur, South Delhi, on 20 November. Two individuals, Shane Waris from Uttar Pradesh and Esther Kinimi from Nagaland, were apprehended following meticulous intelligence work and coordination with state agencies. Their arrests were facilitated by technical surveillance and detailed intelligence inputs.
Investigations have unveiled that the cartel operated through a network of layered handlers, utilizing fake SIM cards and encrypted messaging platforms to evade detection. Shane Waris was reportedly in charge of coordinating with couriers and intermediaries, acting under instructions from foreign operators. Esther Kinimi was responsible for overseeing deliveries through hired riders and rented safe houses.
The authorities suspect that the network is directed by a foreign-based mastermind, who is already wanted in connection with a previous 83-kg cocaine seizure. The recent recovery underscores Delhi's increasing role as a pivotal transit point for synthetic drugs, which are being circulated both within the country and internationally. Efforts are now underway to trace this kingpin and dismantle the cartel's international supply chains.
The Union Home Minister has praised the operation as a prime example of effective multi-agency coordination. Investigators are now focusing on mapping the cartel's financial channels, logistics nodes, and storage points to dismantle their broader network. This breakthrough, one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in Delhi, highlights the intensified efforts to curb synthetic drug trafficking across India.
