India Initiates Operation Ajay for Evacuation

In a decisive move, India has launched a significant operation to bring back its citizens from conflict-hit Israel. The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who revealed that special chartered flights will be arranged for the evacuation. This marks the second such effort by the Indian government this year, following the successful Operation Kaveri, which successfully rescued Indian nationals from Sudan earlier.

Commitment to Safety

Mr. Jaishankar reiterated India's unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad. The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has begun reaching out to registered Indian citizens regarding the first special flight, which is scheduled to depart on Thursday. Plans are already underway for subsequent flights to ensure that as many citizens as possible can be brought back safely.

Context of the Evacuation

The evacuation initiative comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. This includes ongoing Hamas attacks, Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, and the involvement of Hezbollah from southern Lebanon. In light of these developments, India has set up a 24-hour control room in New Delhi, Tel Aviv, and Ramallah, showcasing its readiness to manage the evolving situation effectively.

Indian Presence in Israel

It is important to note that approximately 900 Indian students are currently enrolled in various universities and institutions across Israel. Additionally, there exists a significant population of Indian professionals and workers in the country. Given these numbers, the Indian government is prioritizing the safe return of its citizens amid these challenging circumstances.

As Operation Ajay unfolds, the focus remains on proactive measures to ensure the well-being of Indian citizens in Israel. The government is committed to facilitating their return in a timely and secure manner.
