Oman has recently earned a seat on the International Coordinating Council (ICC) of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme. This achievement highlights Oman’s growing commitment to environmental conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable development at both regional and global levels.
Location: Oman is situated on the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia.
Bordering Countries: It shares its northwestern border with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and its western border with Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Maritime Boundaries: The country is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the south and east, and the Gulf of Oman to the northeast. Its location at the mouth of the Persian Gulf gives it immense strategic importance in regional maritime trade and security.

Major Ports: The Port of Salalah is Oman’s largest and one of the busiest transshipment hubs in the region.
Desert Region: Oman shares part of the vast Rub' al-Khali (Empty Quarter) Desert with Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
Natural Resources: The country is rich in petroleum, copper, asbestos, marble, limestone, chromium, gypsum, and natural gas. These resources form the backbone of its economy.
Offshore Territories: Oman also administers several islands, including Masirah Island and Al-Hallaniyah Island.
