In November 2025, the Mandale Depot was inaugurated in Mumbai, Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone as Asia’s largest and first elevated metro facility. Spanning 32 hectares, this depot serves the 23.6-kilometer-long Mumbai Metro Line 2B, which links DN Nagar in Andheri West to Mandale in Mankhurd East.
Developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the Mandale Depot is a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the efficiency of metro operations. This two-level structure can accommodate up to 72 rakes, making it a vital component of the metro network.
The depot is equipped with a 175 kilolitre per Day (KLD) effluent and sewage treatment facility, promoting water recycling. Additionally, it hosts over 100 kilometers of underground utilities to ensure seamless operations. Noise and dust suppression systems are installed to mitigate environmental impacts, underscoring the depot's commitment to sustainability.
By incorporating these advanced features, the Mandale Depot not only enhances operational efficiency but also sets new standards for metro infrastructure across Asia. The integration of cutting-edge technology and environmentally friendly practices makes it a model for future metro developments.
