In November 2025, a significant partnership was forged between the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) and the Jharkhand State Pharmacy Council (JSPC). This collaboration aims to improve the safety of medicines and enhance pharmacovigilance efforts in Jharkhand. The agreement was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, the Secretary-cum-Scientific Director of IPC, and Prasanth Kumar Pandey, the Registrar-cum-Secretary of JSPC.
The primary objective of the MoU is to promote pharmacovigilance across the state. This strategic alliance is expected to lead to advancements in the reporting of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR), as well as improvements in pharmacovigilance and materiovigilance practices. These efforts are crucial for ensuring the safe use of medicines.
Through this partnership, both IPC and JSPC are committed to building the capacity of registered pharmacists in Jharkhand. This will involve training in various areas related to ADR reporting and the implementation of best practices in pharmacovigilance. By emphasizing capacity building, the collaboration aims to enhance the competence of pharmacists in managing medicine safety.
A noteworthy aspect of the collaboration is the promotion of the National Formulary of India (NFI) as a critical reference for pharmacists. This initiative supports rational dispensing and encourages safe medication practices. By standardizing these practices, the partnership seeks to ensure that pharmacists are well-equipped to serve the community effectively.
Under the terms of the MoU, IPC will play a pivotal role by providing technical assistance and expert support. Meanwhile, JSPC will work closely with pharmacists in both public and private healthcare institutions throughout Jharkhand. This coordination is essential for the successful implementation of the agreed activities and the ultimate goal of enhancing medicine safety.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of improved healthcare outcomes in Jharkhand. By joining forces, IPC and JSPC are setting a precedent for how strategic partnerships can lead to substantial improvements in public health and the safer use of medicines.
