India has consistently shone on the Miss Universe stage, with every Indian contestant's participation marking a proud moment for the nation. Manika Vishwakarma represented India at Miss Universe 2025 in Thailand, prompting a reflection on the Indian women who have previously brought home the prestigious Miss Universe crown.
Representing India in 2025, Manika Vishwakarma made a strong impression by reaching the Top 12. Although she concluded her journey after the swimsuit round, her confidence and thoughtful advocacy work left a lasting impression on the judges.
Manika paid homage to the moment of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment with her National Costume. Her journey to the Miss Universe stage began with being crowned Miss Universe India 2025 in August.
India has proudly secured the Miss Universe crown three times, with each winner bringing global recognition and inspiring many through their talent, confidence, and achievements.
Sushmita Sen became the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title in 1994. Her grace, intelligence, and confidence made her an instant global favorite. Post her win, she ventured into the film industry, acting in Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali movies. Her victory coincided with Aishwarya Rai's win at Miss World the same year.
Lara Dutta, who had earlier won Miss Intercontinental in 1997, made history by winning Miss Universe 2000. Known for her powerful presence and serene personality, she soon became one of Bollywood’s most respected actresses.
Harnaaz Sandhu became India’s third Miss Universe winner in 2021. Before claiming the crown, she won Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 and was a semifinalist in Femina Miss India 2019. Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, Harnaaz comes from a family deeply rooted in education and healthcare. She ventured into Bollywood with her debut film Baaghi 4 alongside Tiger Shroff.
