India is proactively addressing the challenges posed by unauthorized drones through a well-rounded strategy. This involves the establishment of a comprehensive anti-drone unit that incorporates laser-based systems and sophisticated surveillance technologies. The unit collaborates closely with defense organizations such as the DRDO to effectively neutralize drone threats.
The BSF plays a pivotal role in monitoring and neutralizing drones, particularly along the sensitive India-Pakistan border. Recent advancements in detection systems have significantly boosted drone neutralization rates in Punjab, rising from a mere 3% to an impressive 55%.
To tackle the drone menace, India has deployed various technologies, including laser-based counter-drone systems and the Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDD&IS). Additionally, advanced drones like TAPAS-BH-201 are being utilized for effective surveillance and targeting of unauthorized aerial vehicles.
The Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) represents a modern security framework that integrates sensors, surveillance mechanisms, and data analysis. In places like Assam, CIBMS has been successfully implemented along riverine areas such as Dhubri to monitor and prevent cross-border movements effectively.
In 2024, over 260 drones were intercepted or recovered along the India-Pakistan border, compared to just 110 in the previous year. This increase highlights the effectiveness of India's improved counter-drone mechanisms.
To bolster security along riverine borders, advanced surveillance systems under CIBMS have been strategically deployed in Dhubri, Assam. These systems ensure efficient monitoring of cross-border activities, thereby enhancing overall security.
India's commitment to achieving technological self-reliance in drone security is evident through initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat. This initiative has facilitated the development of indigenous technologies, including the TAPAS-BH-201 drone, significantly reducing reliance on foreign imports.
On the international front, India has formed strategic partnerships with countries like the United States to procure MQ-9B Predator drones. This collaboration aims to enhance surveillance capabilities, particularly along maritime and riverine borders.
Through these comprehensive measures, India is taking significant strides in countering drone threats, ensuring the safety and security of its borders.
