It’s Asia’s largest helicopter factory, crucial for India’s self-reliance in helicopter design, development, and manufacturing.
The factory was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 6, 2023.
Spread over 615 acres, the factory initially focuses on producing Light Utility Helicopters (LUHs).
Yes, plans include expanding to produce Light Combat Helicopters (LCHs) and Indian Multirole Helicopters (IMRHs).
Initially, around 30 helicopters per year, with an eventual increase to 60 and 90 helicopters annually in a phased manner.
Besides manufacturing, it will handle Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations for various helicopters.
It aligns with the vision of self-reliance, reducing foreign dependence in defense, and boosting economic and technological growth.
Over 20 years, it’s expected to produce over 1,000 helicopters, generating business over Rs four lakh crores.
It’s expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities and foster regional development in aerospace, education, and healthcare.
It represents a move towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing, reducing reliance on foreign imports, and enhancing national security.
