Guntur is poised to host the National-level SARAS Mela 2026, a significant milestone for the district. The event will take place from 6 January to 18 January 2026, as announced by the Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications.
This prestigious fair aims to draw nationwide attention to rural livelihoods and women-led enterprises. The National Platform for Women Self-Help Groups SARAS Mela is a flagship initiative targeting the economic empowerment of women through sustainable livelihoods. Over 13 days, approximately 300 women artisans and entrepreneurs from 21 States and Union Territories will participate.
The fair will be inaugurated at 4:00 PM on 8 January 2026 by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, alongside the Union Minister of State. This is the first time the National SARAS event is being hosted in Guntur, highlighting Andhra Pradesh's commitment to women-led development and entrepreneurship.
The Mela will feature India's rich artisanal heritage, showcasing handmade products such as bamboo crafts, traditional jewellery, handicrafts, home décor items, and eco-friendly jute products. Notable handloom highlights will include the renowned Pochampally and Gadwal weaves. An All-India SHG Food Court will serve regional delicacies like Rayalaseema cuisine, Madugula Halwa, Bheemili Thandra, and Atreyapuram Pootharekulu.
In addition to exhibitions, SARAS 2026 will provide structured capacity-building and training sessions on key livelihood themes, conducted by expert resource persons. The Lakhapati Didi Pavilion will showcase success stories of women entrepreneurs from various districts. Evening entertainment will include cultural performances from different states and districts.
Comprehensive security measures will ensure safety, including 24/7 surveillance with over 100 CCTV cameras. Participating SHG members will enjoy free accommodation, food, and transport. The event is organized by Guntur Zilla Samakhya in collaboration with DRDA and SERP, taking place at the Open Ground opposite Reddy College, Adarsha Nagar, Guntur, with free entry for all visitors.
