The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) conducted these tests from August 8 to 10 at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. Utilizing the Rail Track Rocket Sled (RTRS) facility at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh, ISRO evaluated the effectiveness of drogue parachutes under various conditions.
Drogue parachutes are specially designed to deploy during the re-entry phase, helping to decelerate and stabilize the spacecraft or crew module. This functionality ensures a controlled descent and a safe landing, which is critical for the success of missions like GAGANYAAN.
