Export Promotion Mission (EPM)

Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the Export Promotion Mission (EPM), which was first announced in the Union Budget 2025–26. The initiative aims to enhance India’s export competitiveness, especially for MSMEs, first-time exporters, and labour-intensive sectors.

About Export Promotion Mission

The Export Promotion Mission is a flagship government initiative designed to consolidate existing export schemes under a single, outcome-driven framework. It promotes a flexible, digital, and collaborative approach to export growth, aligning national trade strategies with evolving global dynamics.

Features of the Export Promotion Mission

  • Provides a comprehensive and digitally driven framework for export promotion.
  • Time Period and Funding: ₹25,060 crore allocated for FY 2025–26 to FY 2030–31.
  • Marks a shift from fragmented schemes to a single, adaptive mechanism focused on measurable outcomes.
  • Operates under a collaborative framework involving the Department of Commerce, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Consolidates key export support schemes like the Interest Equalisation Scheme (IES) and Market Access Initiative (MAI), adapting them to modern trade requirements.
  • Provides priority support to sectors affected by global tariff increases — including textiles, leather, gems & jewellery, engineering goods, and marine products.
  • Implementing Agency: Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Sub-Schemes under Export Promotion Mission

1. NIRYAT PROTSAHAN: Focuses on improving MSMEs’ access to affordable trade finance through instruments such as interest subvention, export factoring, and collateral guarantees.

2. NIRYAT DISHA: Emphasizes non-financial enablers that boost export readiness and competitiveness — including quality certification, compliance support, international branding, packaging, export warehousing, and logistics.
