Gaping Gill is one of the longest and most intricate cave systems in the UK, situated in the stunning Yorkshire Dales near Ingleborough. The primary shaft reaches a depth of approximately 365 feet (111 meters), which is comparable to the height of St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Bradford Pothole Club is providing an incredible opportunity for the public to experience the cave system firsthand through a winching event from May 25 to 31.
Pre-booking for this exciting event is not available. Participants should arrive early to secure their spot on the day of the event. The winching service commences at 08:00 BST, and an entrance fee must be paid in cash.
The Bradford Pothole Club has been organizing this popular “winch meet” for over 60 years, allowing individuals to safely explore the depths of the cave. A similar event is also organized by the Craven Pothole Club in August. Outside of these special events, access to the cave system is restricted to experienced cavers only.
