The Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission is a significant spaceflight initiative aimed at the International Space Station (ISS). Scheduled for launch on June 8 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, this mission includes Indian Air Force officer Group Captain Shubhangshu Shukla as one of its crew members.
As part of the Axiom-4 mission, two outreach activities are in the pipeline:
The primary aims of these outreach programmes are:
Absolutely! ISRO and NASA plan to jointly conduct five microgravity-based human research experiments aboard the ISS. These experiments will be led by Indian Principal Investigators from various research and development labs and academic institutions.
An exciting amateur radio link will be established between the ISS and students in India. This setup will enable students to interact directly with Group Captain Shukla during his time in space.
ISRO has pinpointed multiple locations across India for these engaging student events. However, the specific cities involved have not yet been disclosed, and coordination is ongoing to finalize these locations.
In addition to participating in the scientific experiments, Group Captain Shukla will lead the student interaction sessions and act as a representative of India’s aspirations in space exploration aboard the ISS.
The Axiom-4 mission represents a crucial advancement in India’s human spaceflight journey, highlighting the growing collaboration with NASA. It also serves to inspire young Indians by providing them a direct window into international space missions.
As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”
