India’s shooting campaign at the ISSF World Championship in Cairo concluded on a high as Esha Singh clinched her maiden individual world championship bronze in the women’s 25m pistol Olympic event. Her composed performance further strengthened India’s position in the medal standings.
Esha scored 30 hits in the final, securing third place behind Korea’s Olympic champion Yang Jiin, who won gold with 40 hits, and China’s Yao Qianxun, who claimed silver with 38. The podium finish marks a significant milestone for Esha, adding to her earlier World Cup achievements and capping a successful year ahead of her participation in the ISSF World Cup Finals in Doha.
Both Esha and Manu Bhaker advanced to the top eight after solid rapid-fire performances in qualification, scoring 587 and 586 respectively. Esha entered the final in fifth position, while Manu qualified sixth out of 86 competitors. The final saw close contests, with Esha maintaining third place after the early series and prevailing in a key duel against France’s Lamolle Mathilde. Manu was eliminated in the eighth series, finishing fourth, while Esha’s consistent shooting ensured India a podium finish.
India ended the championship with a remarkable haul in Olympic events—one gold, four silver and two bronze medals—its best-ever tally at the world level. Overall, India ranked third across all events with three gold, five silver and four bronze medals, behind China and Korea.
In qualification, Yang Jiin dominated with 591, including a perfect 300 in rapid fire, while other notable qualifiers came from Turkey, Iran and North Korea. India’s women’s 25m pistol team finished fourth with 1745 points, narrowly missing the bronze. In rifle prone events, both men’s and women’s squads placed fifth despite strong individual totals. Esha’s podium finish ensured India ended its campaign on an inspiring note, reinforcing the country’s rising depth and consistency in pistol shooting on the global stage.
