The PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana is a significant government initiative designed to enhance farm productivity and crop intensity across 100 districts in various states. This scheme aims to improve irrigation, facilitate access to credit, and ensure sustainable livelihoods in rural regions characterized by low agricultural output.
Several states are set to benefit from this program, particularly those with districts that experience low farm productivity and crop intensity. The likely beneficiaries include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Assam.
The primary objective of this scheme is to improve agricultural output by tackling challenges such as low irrigation coverage and limited access to modern farming tools. Additionally, the program emphasizes sustainable development and resilience in agriculture.
One of the crucial aspects of this initiative is to enhance irrigation coverage, particularly in states reliant on rainfed agriculture. As it stands, only about 55% of India's net-sown area has access to adequate irrigation facilities.
The budget earmarked for agriculture under this program indicates substantial growth, with the agriculture ministry's capital spending projected at ₹292.2 crore for 2025-26, a significant increase from ₹122.5 crore in 2024-25.
