Introduction

In December 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) presented seven indigenous technologies to the Indian Armed Forces, including the Indian Air Force (IAF), Indian Army (IA), and Indian Navy (IN). This significant handover occurred during an Empowered Committee meeting at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi.

Overview of Technologies Delivered

The technologies handed over are:

  • Indigenous High-Voltage Power Supply (IHVPS)
  • Tide-Efficient Gangway (TEG)
  • Advanced Very Low Frequency–High Frequency Switching Matrix Systems (VLF–HF SMS)
  • VLF Loop Aerials (VLF-LA)
  • Indigenous Waterjet Propulsion System (IWPS)
  • Novel Process for Recovery of Lithium Precursors (NPRLP)
  • Long-Life Seawater Battery System (LLSBS)

Details of the Technologies

Each of these technologies has been engineered and rigorously tested in collaboration with Indian industry and DRDO experts, ensuring they meet the operational needs of the Indian Armed Forces.

1. Indigenous High-Voltage Power Supply (IHVPS)

This power supply is designed for airborne electronic warfare systems, enhancing aircraft capabilities through reliable jamming and self-protection against threats.

2. Tide-Efficient Gangway (TEG)

The TEG facilitates safe boarding and deboarding under varying tidal conditions, promoting safety and operational efficiency at naval installations.

3. Advanced VLF–HF Switching Matrix System (VLF–HF SMS)

This system ensures secure communication across very-low and high-frequency bands, critical for command-and-control in challenging environments.

4. VLF Loop Aerials (VLF-LA)

VLF Loop Aerials enable communication and signal reception for underwater platforms, aiding stealth operations and maritime surveillance.

5. Indigenous Waterjet Propulsion System (IWPS)

The IWPS enhances the speed and maneuverability of naval interceptor crafts, improving response times for coastal security operations.

6. Novel Process for Recovery of Lithium Precursors (NPRLP)

This innovative process supports the sustainable recovery of lithium from used batteries, promoting resource efficiency and circular economy objectives.

7. Long-Life Seawater Battery System (LLSBS)

The LLSBS powers underwater sensors for long-duration operations, crucial for naval and maritime security missions while reducing maintenance needs.

About the Empowered Committee Meeting

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, with attendance from senior officials from the Indian Armed Forces, Department of Defence Production (DDP), and Ministry of Defence (MoD).

New Projects Approved

Alongside the technology handover, 12 new projects covering strategic, aerospace, naval, and electronic warfare technologies were also approved, further enhancing India's defense capabilities.

Conclusion

The initiatives under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme are pivotal for advancing India's self-reliance in defense technology.
