What is the Vigyan Dhara Scheme?

Vigyan Dhara is a central sector initiative approved by the Indian government aimed at enhancing the nation’s scientific and technological capabilities through comprehensive research, innovation, and capacity building.

Existing Schemes Merged Under Vigyan Dhara

  • National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS): This initiative focuses on enhancing capacity in emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, and big data.
  • Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE): This program aims to attract and nurture scientific talent by promoting research and innovation at various academic levels.
  • Manak Programme (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge): It encourages school students to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Priority Areas of the Scheme

The scheme places a strong emphasis on research in sustainable energy, water resources, biotechnology, and other strategic sectors, while also promoting international collaboration.

Funding Allocation for Vigyan Dhara

The total outlay for the Vigyan Dhara scheme amounts to ₹10,579.84 crore, covering the period from 2021 to 2026.

One of the key aims of Vigyan Dhara is to boost the participation of women in science and technology, effectively addressing the existing gender gaps in these fields.
