In December 2025, the Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited, a Multi-State Cooperative registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act of 2002, initiated a soft launch of the ‘Bharat Taxi’ ride-hailing service in New Delhi and Gujarat. This is a precursor to the official launch scheduled for January 2026.
This soft launch represents the commencement of beta consumer trials for India's first driver-owned national mobility cooperative. The Bharat Taxi app is available for beta testing on Google Play and integrates various modes of transport, including connectivity to the Delhi Metro.
The Bharat Taxi app is managed by the Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited, promoted as the world’s first national mobility cooperative fully owned by its drivers, without any government involvement. This project is supported by the Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division under the Digital India Corporation.
The initiative has an authorized capital of Rs. 300 crore and is jointly promoted by eight national cooperative institutions, including the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO).
The launch of Bharat Taxi signifies a transformative approach to ride-hailing in India, empowering drivers and providing an innovative solution to urban mobility challenges.
