On the momentous occasion of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led national commemorations in Kurukshetra. The event included the release of a commemorative postage stamp, a special coin, and a coffee-table book dedicated to the Ninth Sikh Guru.
The grand state-level event, organized by the Haryana government under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, attracted thousands of devotees from Haryana and neighboring states. A large venue was established at Jyotisar village to accommodate the gathering, supported by robust security and logistical arrangements to manage the substantial crowds.
A significant highlight of the ceremony was an interfaith Gurbani recitation performed by 350 students from a Patiala school, representing the Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, and Christian communities. They came together to render kirtan for approximately half an hour, symbolizing unity and shared reverence for Guru Tegh Bahadur’s teachings on faith, sacrifice, and the protection of religious freedom.
During his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the sacred legacy of Kurukshetra in relation to Sikh tradition, recalling visits made by many Sikh Gurus to the region. He referred to Guru Tegh Bahadur as “Hind Di Chadar,” underscoring his courage in defying forced conversions during Mughal rule. Modi also praised Bhai Jaita (Bhai Jeevan Singh) for his brave act of carrying the Guru’s severed head to Anandpur Sahib.
Furthermore, he highlighted the government's initiatives to honor Sikh heritage, mentioning significant events such as major Prakash Gurpurb celebrations, the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, the Hemkund Sahib ropeway, and the expansion of Virasat-e-Khalsa.
During his visit, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Panchajanya Memorial at the Mahabharata Experience Centre in Jyotisar, featuring a magnificent golden conch structure inscribed with verses from the Bhagavad Gita. Subsequently, he performed maha aarti at Brahmasarovar, part of the International Gita Mahotsav 2025, where he engaged with scholars and explored thematic galleries on the Mahabharata, further solidifying Kurukshetra’s significance as a vital spiritual and cultural hub.
