In November 2025, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J P Nadda, inaugurated the 10th anniversary celebrations of the AMRIT (Affordable Medicines and Reliable Implants for Treatment) Pharmacy. The event took place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and marked a significant milestone in the journey of AMRIT pharmacies across India.
Since the inception of the first outlet in November 2015 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, AMRIT has expanded its reach significantly. With over 255 pharmacies nationwide, it has benefited approximately 6.85 crore patients by offering essential medicines and medical supplies at substantial discounts ranging from 50% to 90%. This initiative has resulted in savings of around Rs. 8,400 crore for patients, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare celebrated this milestone by inaugurating 10 new AMRIT pharmacy outlets across India. This expansion is a crucial step towards enhancing the accessibility of affordable healthcare services.
In addition to the new outlets, the Union Minister launched AMRIT ITes – Eco Green Version 2.0. This upgraded digital platform aims to streamline operations, enhance transparency, and improve efficiency within the AMRIT network, reinforcing the commitment to environmentally sustainable practices.
During the celebrations, a coffee table book was released, showcasing the journey and achievements of AMRIT Pharmacy. Furthermore, a 'Customised My Stamp' was introduced in collaboration with Indian Post, adding a personalized touch to commemorate this significant occasion.
HLL Lifecare Limited, a Mini Ratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is the implementing agency responsible for the successful operation and expansion of AMRIT pharmacies. Their efforts have been pivotal in ensuring the availability of life-saving medicines and medical supplies to the masses at affordable prices.
As AMRIT continues to grow, it sets a benchmark for accessible healthcare, aiming to scale up to 500 outlets across the country, thus furthering its mission to provide affordable healthcare solutions to all.
